simple words

Songs are my only buildings. I have new ones and old. I have loved them all in some way. They are what will be left of me when I am no longer here. Some days I stand in the shadow of this personal skyline, overwhelmed, looking for a new street to turn down, and some days it couldn’t be clearer. Shadow or sun though, it remains a wonder to me all that I have been lucky enough to create, all that I have been blessed to share. I don’t know that anything I have ever done has been great or even good for that matter, but I know that these songs, these words, these buildings and the people that I have built them with are the threads of me. They wake me in the morning, tether me to the task, and on days like this when the view seems too good to abandon they send me out into weather to find a new reason to build.
